I have heard some silly ones. Like Bluebell Madonna, 2 girls that were named, Anita Bra and Iona Bra. Some twins named Denim and Indigo. Hmm, I read about some crazy ones the other day but I dont remember where I found them at.

Reply:I agree with you on those. For some reason people don't think Maalik is weird nowadays (but really ... the spell checker is suggesting MAALOX right now; is that what you want your kid's name to always get printed as?). It's still not a good name.

The weirdest girl name I've ever heard is Balanish. I use it for every one of the 'weird name' questions ... but it is! It sounds like an exotic deli meat.

The weirdest boy's name I've heard is Antrim Zeezrom. That was his whole first name. I didn't have the heart to ask his middle name or his last ... after he told me that whole thing was his first name ... I had to walk away to keep from laughing in his face.

The strangest girls name I've heard (after Balanish) isn't even made up, at least not really. This was a mom who'd husband had run out when she was pregnant with their second child. The first one, a boy, was named Dale Jr. So she named the second one Young Elizabeth, after herself, of course.

I really wanted to give my kids really unique names, but I had to factor in my husband's opinion, too. and then you have to think of every possibile taunt they would get with that name. i have a friend named Phillip Herrschaft... and that's not a kind thing to do to a kid. read the name again slowly, yeah. remember you might think the name is cool, but they are the ones that have to live with it forever (or until they disown you and change their name).

Reply:Classy names tend to be more traditional names verses trendy names, so look to the classics: Elizabeth, Ava, Katharine. Also try the social security website and look up the most popular names from another date, say 1950, or so. That might give you some classic/formal names. Alot more people are choosing very trendy baby names (hence the other responses) so a classic name would also be a little unique as well. But please do everyone a favor and DO NOT name your daughter Sophie or Sophia...if I meet one more little girl named that I will scream!!

Reply:Unique implies one and only. Any name suggested would most likely not be unique. My nephew sure came up with unique names for his three children. I never heard of names like them before.

Now there are some birds with rather unusual names. Cotinga is on such bird. Some are snowy white. Others of the family are turquoise. Now I think you would have to admit that Cotinga is an unusual name. And when your baby girl becomes old enough and asks where her name came from, you could say a very beautiful family of birds found in Costa Rica.

I am bilingual and my husband just speaks English. Our community is probably close to even thirds of White, Black , and Hispanic. I have often heard children with names that were very difficult for some of our community members to pronouce correctly. I didn't want my daughter to constantly have her name mispronounced by an English speaker or a Spanish speaker. So choosing a name that sounded good in English and Spanish was a HUGE part of my decision in naming my daughter. I named my daughter Ariana. I am proud to say that she will soon turn three and I have NEVER had anyone pronounce her name in a way that didn't sound good. Usually English speakers call her airy-ah-nuh and Spanish speakers call her ah-ree-ah-nuh , so it works out just fine. I AM SO GLAD I CHOSE ARIANA ! I highly recommend it to you.

My baby will be born later in December and I need a good name. But, I am so sick of all the trendy and common names out there, I want a name I have never heard before, something unique without being too wierd. Ten points to the best one. Try to avoid names that start with a 'k' or hard 'c'. Try to use only two sylables.

I got it from thinking about sluggers, like Griffey or Ryan Howard. They always swing with their hands in-tight, like in a cranking motion. They make it seem really effortless. That's one of the coolest images of baseball I can think of. Maple bats have become really popular lately, and I like the way that word sounded, so I used that to describe the bats.

That's all you have to do. Try to think of what you love about baseball. Or, take inspiration from your team. Maybe if your team is relatively small and quick, you can work in the phrase "small ball" or something about speed. If it's sluggers, your name can have something to do with sluggers.

Then, make it rhyme, or use really cool words in place of boring ones, to make it sound good. You can use double-meanings or references.

It really depends. If it was legit and unique it would be fine but if it was made-up and spelled wrong and would choose a more common one.
Reply:Depends what you mean by "really unique." I'd rather use a common name any day over some of the made up ones I see on here. Overall though, I want my kids to have uncommon names. I was the only Alexandra in my high school of over 3,000 people and I loved it. There were 9 Ashley's in one of my classes once and I couldn't even imagine having such a common name. Sure you can't find gifts with your name on it, but I kind of liked that. Now when I see things coming out with my name on it it kind of makes me sad, haha.

I wanted to use Isabella as my first daughter's name (when I have one, I'm still in college) but I refuse to now since it's SO overly used. Oh well.

What's a really unique + pretty name for a newborn?
i like Catherince for a girl, it's my best friend's name. then there is Julie, Amy, Isabella (Bella), Reena, Hanon, Faith, Laura, Jovilette, Megan, Chloe, Rachel,Carly and Molly.

for guys, David, Jamison (James), Hunter, Daniel, Katch, Keane, Gabriel (Gabe), Jason, Michael, Richard, Thomas, Joseph (Joe), Edward, Emment, and Zane.

mixing these names can make a middle name and first name, a lot of names you may like from anyone telling you names you can choose and then they will only sound good as middle names a lot of those times. here's what i think is most important in picking names, put your heart and interests into it. if you like to read, get your favorite book and see if you like names from it. and then, you just follow your heart when it tells you you found a great name and don't keep looking for better. your hearts knows best.

My name is Cristalle and it's French. It's really supposed to be pronounced Christelle (Chris combined with tell), but the spelling of Cristalle is already too confusing so I just say Christall (Chris like the boy's name and tall like you are tall--you just combine it). But still no one pronounces it correctly (my whole life), they love to say Crystal and sometimes I get Cristalley, or sometimes even Christine! How do they get Christine from Cristalle?

I was named after the perfume Cristalle by Chanel. My mum is quite branded and loves brand names and such. She almost named my little sister Chanel, but named her Chantal instead. My older sister is Celine cause my mum loves the brand name purses.

Evangeline %26amp; Kenlee--LOVE THEM! Evangeline is my favorite name, and I've never heard it used on a person in real life. Kenlee is so pretty, despite what the haters say ;) I heard Evangeline from my mother, who got it from the book Uncle Tom's Cabin, and Kenlee was actually from Kenley on Project Runway. I just love the name!

I've only had websites with angelfire.com, but now I want to have my own domain name and advertising that I'm getting paid for hosting. How do I create my own domain name with some web space to work with, and after that, how do I offer my page as advertising grounds?

How do I start my own website with a unique domain name?
Well, I can help you get started with the unique domain name part. First go to a domain name registration site. Be careful though, many are shady and unstable. I developed a web site for the company I work for, and found out the hard way that domain name carriers can be crooks. Here is the site I've found to be reliable and we now use: http://www.domaindirect.com/

If you go to this web site, one of the first things you see is SEARCH in red, just plug in what you want for a domain name and it'll search it to see if it's already taken. That's the easy part.

Once you've figured out what you want for a domain name, then register it. This will cost a little money, but domaindirect has a few options, one of which you might find affordable. In order to use a domain name, it must be registered, this is unavoidable. If you try to go with some other domain registration site that advertises really cheap domain names, they might nickel and dime you every time you turn around, and they'll be real annoying about it, and they may not have reliable servers, and your site many suffer down time because of that........unless of course you choose to host your own domain, and that's a bit more tricky......but, regardless, you still must register your domain name.......If you choose to host your own site (that means the actual site is on your computer which is connected to the net at all times, and you'll need a real good firewall, and have the knowledge of how to keep hackers out of your computer and off your site) then you'll have to learn how to do all of that yourself or from someone else because I don't know about that. However, domaindirect has web hosting packages you may purchase along with your domain name registration. I found them to be very affordable. Usually, especially for a beginner domain, you'll only need one of the cheaper smaller packages, so don't waste your money on something fancy. Of course, you'll have to have some sort of idea of how many megabytes you'll need for your web site if you have it hosted through domaindirect or any other domain name server/host.

Well, that ought to get you started on it......I don't know about the offering your page for advertising grounds. Maybe someone else can help you with that part.

on yahoo its like 2 bucks for a year I think!

They have a web server that will publish your site. I recommend qualityhostonline.com. You can do it all for about $20 total. It's easy to get a website published, but getting good traffic, like more than 100 hits a day, is very difficult and usually expensive. The best program for getting advertising on your site is Google Adsense. You get payed per click when people click on the google ads, and you pay nothing. The trick is, if you don't have a lot of traffic, you won't get a lot of clicks. There are no easy shortcuts. It takes time, and there's a lot to learn.

It seems that some parents are so keen on having a "unique" name that they are just making up weird nonsense words and calling it a name. I don't understand this. Can someone please explain why using one of the vast number of existing names is a bad idea? What's with the urge for a "unique" name? I really am missing something here.

Why are people so enamored with finding a "unique" name?
It comes down to people wanting to think both they and their child is unique and special. While it is true that we are all unique in many ways, there are a lot more similarities than we like to admit. As a result, to get the unique identity the parents want for their child, they have to go way outside the box to come up with a name. And of course as more and more people pick odd names or odd spellings, there will eventually be overlap as people hear them or see them and say "That's cute, I think I will name my next one that."

My wife and I are trying to pick a name that not everyone else has, but if our child runs into another child with the same name that's fine too. The child can be unique on their own without some off-the-wall name.

It is sad because names are things you keep for your life so they should be given with consideration for that. Some names that are given in one language have a meaning in another language and as such may not be one that should be given to a new baby.

Having worked in data entry for years, we had a few unusual names cross the years, Unborn was one of them, Vagina was another, and a few were names that were 'dirty words' in our American English dialect, but perfectly respectable in their own country.

People should research the meanings of the names that they choose to give their new babies, such things are significant. In some families certain names must be handed down from one generation to the next, often using Grandma's name for a middle name if not Grandma's precise name.

Lol, jk. I think parents are determined to have their kids go to school and not meet another person in their class with the same name. (in school there was usually at least 2 people with my name "Sarah") so it is understandable I guess. I just don't understand the names that are based of of brand names, or fruits? weird.
Reply:i dont get it either... my name is caroline star and my whole life i've been called carolyn!.. even for the first 21 years of my life, my aunt called me carolyn and wrote it on all my b-day and christmas cards! the thing is, she's from north carolina.. similar enough! so a couple of years ago, i threw a fit and word got back to her so she stopped! Anyways, my point is, if people can screw my name up the majority of the time.. and i've been made fun of since i can remember for my middle name, then i feel bad for all the kids that have "unique" names!
Reply:I'm not sure, I hate it when people spell names trashy or make ones up to be "unique" I like traditional, yet uncommon names. So names that are actual names and have meaning to me or my heritage...but aren't used all the freakin' time, mostly because I don't want their to be 12 other "Jessica"s or whatever in the kids class at school.

Its almost like its intolerable to have a common name - even though the custom names are quite dumb.

I know a guy whose initials ended up being "WAD" because his parents simply couldn't resist giving him a weird first name and middle name.
Reply:I think its because they want their children to stand out and not have the same name as other children in the class. Be that as it may, when you start giving children names like Apple, Pear etc or changing the spelling of names that really is going to far. But that's just my opinion

I'm just guessing that they don't want the child named the same as another child. They want their child to have an individual personality and name. But usually the opposite happens, the child becomes resentful of a unique name.
Reply:I think over-used names just don't make it feel as special for people. It's like if suddenly diamonds were free and everyone had them, they wouldn't be so desired. But there should be a limit to 'unique'. Some names these days are just absurd.
Reply:People are obsessed with having a unique child and they feel that a unique name makes a unique child. Unfortunately many kids end up with names that are difficult to spell and pronounce and these kids are no more unique than anyone else.
Reply:because it's annoying to have to go by Mike W, Mike N, Mike K, etc because you're the 12th Mike in your class. (just as an example)

Reply:I have actually heard of naming a girl Joke, which when you say it in reference to the name doesnt sound bad if you think of it as Jo-ke. But what a horrible teasing she will get and what strange looks the parents must get.
