Here's a few things to keep in mind:





1) Keep your industry, your clients/customers, your advertising plan in mind.





2) The more unique %26amp; distinctive a name, the higher the chances that the name is legally available for use. And the higher the chances of obtaining the trademark.





3) Think of your business as having a personality. What kind of image do you want your business to portray?





Specific brainstorming tips:





Think about what you want but more importantly, think about what you DON'T want. If you don't want a 3-word name, don't bother with those. If you don't want non-English words, don't bother with those %26amp; so on and so forth.





What are the "types" of names you like? Think about words in their simple forms, e.g. adjectives, Latin roots, mythological names, etc. Compile a listing of the types %26amp; then seek out resources, such as books or sites, that specialize in those types.





I suggest either hiring a name creation firm or get together with your friends and/or family and throw a "name party" %26amp; have everyone bounce some ideas around. Compile a listing of names that you like the best. Once you have that list, do as much free research as you can before you delve into comprehensive research.

Only comprehensive research will tell you if the name is truly available. But, these links are free %26amp; a great place to start, so I'd try them out first.





Comprehensive research consists of looking at marks that are similar in Sound, Appearance or Meaning in the pending %26amp; registered Federal AND State trademark files as well as the US National Common-Law files.

You'll also want to check domain names %26amp; yellow pages, so simply do a search for "free domain name search" and "national yellowpages" and the appropriate links will pop up.

The internet has changed the way we think and communicate. The first thing you need to consider is if the name of business you are choosing is also available on the internet. For example if you are picking XYZ Corporation or Company you must make sure the domain name for that enterprize has not been taken for example XYZ.com Next you want a name that is easy to remember or gives an idea about your company. Not that all companies pick a name that explains what they are selling see for example Amazon.com name has nothing to do with books however they have done amazing marketing to get brand recognition. Also stay away from names that are spelling nightmares Knights of Columbus. now is it nights of columbus or knights of columbus. I hope this helped.

Then list 100 words you think of when you think of the business.





From those words make up a name.
