I see people on here all the time asking for unique names but than many of the responses include names that I see on here all the time. How do you define a unique name?
What is Considered a Unique Name?
People are oblivious to the fact that the name they like didn't just occur to them. A simple check of the SSA website will show how popular a name is. If it's in the top 100, it's popular.
A few names I like:
female/
Kenya
Kaia
Soleil %26lt;---as a middle name.
Raven %26lt;---as a middle name.
male/
Corbin
Wesley
Now I'm not saying I've never heard those names before, but it's not like you hear them often no matter where you live. And yeah, a lot of people don't really like uncommon names. No matter how much they want to be unique, they prefer common names. That's when they try to just misspell common names, which is just dumb and frustrating for a kid.

Reply:a name that is spelled ridiculously like with q's, x's, z's, y's instead of i's.
So instead of saying Grace, spell it Grayce,
or a name that is so uncommon that it's practically new.
like Shaye;)

Reply:Unique Name- uncommon
Reply:I think uniqueness comes from wherever you live. I have a unique name for my daughter. Her name was compiled of a part of two important peoples names in my life. I took the first letter of my friends name C and combined it with the end on my moms name and came up with Carina. In the 14 years of her life, I have only seen it spelled this way twice.
Unique names are very hard to find, but I think they are names you come up with to suit your own taste in a name.
Reply:Most of the names my husband Slappy comes up with are very unique.
Reply:A unique name is a name that you don't see everyday, but is still nice.
Some examples of common names:
Sara
Kelly
Abby
Hayley
Michelle
Some examples of unique names:
Dakota
Veronica
Elise
Genevieve
Serena
Reply:Some names that I think are unique are:
Makai - Boy
Amaya - Girl
Yurei - Unisex
Ha'ani - Girl (Derived from the island of Guam, meaning Morning Sky or something like that)
Reply:i like the name:
Liam Jameson Alexander and then the last name
i usually consider unique names to be like names that you dont normally hear alot and are rare
i absolutly love the whole double middle name thing i want to name my son the name i said above!
Reply:Taking two things that are important to you then combining them. Most likely, you will never see this kind of name and its something special.
Reply:I think of it as a name that's not in the top 50 names on the social security list. If it's made up, I think it's just plain wierd most of the time. For example, Isabella is not a unique name. Claudia is a unique name. Trabey or Darmino are wierd names.
Reply:I have a cousin and her name is Uri Illiana
Reply:a name that wouldn't be considered common or normal. a name that you probabl;y wouldnt hear on a reg. basis
Reply:Amythest
Reply:Unique means one of a kind. A truly unique name has only one bearer. When people say they like unique names, they really mean Jayden and Brileigh.
Reply:I've never met another girl with my name. I'm Stevanna (steh-vahn-ah) and people call me Stevie. I love it because I went by Stevie for the first 18 years of my life and now people are slowly starting to call me Stevanna because it sounds more mature. Love both my names.
p.s. middle name is Marie... nice and boring.
Reply:I can't define it for anyone else, but I'll define it for myself. My kids names, to me, are all unique, because I don't know anyone who has those names, I don't know anyone who has used them for their kids, and the names are easy to spell and pronounce. My kids names are Micah, Aidan, Alec and Olivia.... Aidan was unique when I used it, but thanks to Sex In The City and All My Children, the name is more popular than ever! Anyway, I pick names that I love, that are common enough that people know how to say and spell them, but aren't common enough that my kids will have a million other kids of that name in the room with them in school.
Reply:I think of unique names as ones that aren't in the top one hundred, like Eleanor or Daphne or Theodore. I think a more correct word to use would be 'unusual', since technically, unique would be something more along the lines of 'no one has this name every before', which means 'completely made up' to me, like Darteesqua. I tend to take questions like that as meaning 'unusual' names instead of 'unique' names.
Reply:A name you do not hear offen
Nevaeh(I hate the name) is a top 50 name, I do not think it unique
Jodi, has not been on the top 1000 list for a few years, I consider Jodi unique
Also, names like Chandi and Zevi
Reply:Colleen Lars Startton Lani Tsedal Rila Tinla
Reply:like cheya and leticia
shannon and trina

Reply:As far as the Moms on this category know, "unique" means a little bit different. Unique means there is only one, and that will never be the case with the names they choose. Usually it is a very popular, trendy, and dated name with some slightly odd spelling that will just show everyone that Mom has no real taste or creativity. Get a hobby for creativity -- don't take it out on another human being! Desirae is on the right track!
