My mom and I were talking one day about words, cliches, and phrases that we don't like. I can't stand it when people say "and what not" at the end of an intelligent statement. Eg, You have to do a lot to prepare for college, like: taking the right classes in high school, researching schools you are interested in, applying for financial aid, and what not.





I hate that - just a pet peeve I guess.





But my mom told me that it was common in old timey garage sales to advertise, "clothes, books and other what-nots." Meaning, a whole lot of miscellaneous, random stuff.
