What unique name can I be called as a grandmother?

I am Mic Mac Indian, and my mother (who just passed) was THE NANA of the family. I just found out my daughter is pregnant and already I am thinking of what he/she looks like, what their name will be and what they will call me and my husband. We are both 41 yrs old, and grammy and grampy just don't sound like us.

What unique name can I be called as a grandmother?
Congratulations! I'm far away from being a grandmother yet (hopefully not for another 15 years) , but just the other day I was thinking about the fact that one day my 2 daughters will have babies of their own. When I was younger being a grandmother seemed like such an undesirable position, but then I realized that grandmotherhood could possibly be one of the best times of my life! With that said, I understand wanting a different name though because I imagine I won't feel old enough to be called granny. We grew up calling my grandmother Nana and that was so special to us because I knew no one else who I had a Nana. My grandma got us calling her that since we were born because she also was too cool and young to called anything else! lol My grandpa died before I was born so I never called him much. I think maybe the Nana has passed on to you. Every family should have a Nana! Good Luck.
Reply:Well you could always be a Nana and Papa, as was your mother.

My children call my mother Nana and my father Papa, which is much different from what i called my grandparents- i called mine, Grandmother and Granddaddy- my children call my grandmother GG (for great-grandmother)

and my other grandparents i call Memaw and Pap Pa- they're a bit country. lol

In my experience with my son I would advise you to pick something easy to say. My parents are young grandparents and they go by Nana and Papa and my son's been saying their names since he was 11 months old but my in-laws chose to go with Grandpa %26amp; Grandma and he still doesn't say their names at 22 months. My moms friend's name is Lori and her grandchildren call her Lolo.

This site had some good ones too. http://www.thenewparentsguide.com/grandp...

Good Luck %26amp; God Bless! %26amp; CONGRATS!!!
Reply:Sorry to hear about your loss! Being Portuguese, I call my mother's mother Vavo and I called my grandfather Vuvu. My dad is Slovenian but I call my grandmother Grandma and I called my grandfather Grandpa. I often wonder what my kids will call my mother? Should they call her Vavo to keep the tradition...but my grandmother is sort of THE VAVO of the family like your mother was. Grandma? My mom isn't so keen on being called Grandma.

I think it is best that you talk it over with your husband, your daughter, and your other kids (if you have any more) and maybe even their spouses.

Here are some suggestions:

Nanny (Not exactly Nana...)

Gran

Papa

Pop(s)
Reply:Maybe there is something in your native language for grandmother and grandfather that can be used. I am of Norwegian descent and when I had my son, my mother said she always wanted one of her grandchildren to call her by the Norwegian term "mor-mor" which actually means mother's mother. When my son started to talk, I tried to teach him "mor-mor," but it came out mamu. So, she has been Mamu ever since.

You are both so young, I can understand why you don't want to be referred to in an older capacity. I've wondered about this myself, should I be so lucky to ever have grandchildren. I don't want to be called grandma! How about Glam-ma?
Reply:If you want something unique, use the language of your nationality. For example, my mother is German and just became a grandmother last year for the first time! She has chosen to be called OMA (and OPA for grandfather). German for grandma. Its simple, its unique, and it has meaning! Try something like that. :)
Reply:what is the word for Grandma in your native language? I called my grandmother Busha (polish for grandma). See if you can use that word. My mom wants to be called Nana when I have a baby.

All my grandpa's have been pop or pawpaw.
Reply:Talk with your daughter, I bet she has some great ideas.

Reply:i have a nana and papaw and then my other two are completely made up. so maybe you should just wait and see what the grandchild calls you
Reply:Try a variation on your name, such as Char-ma. It may turn into something totally unique and special. My young step-grandmother Becky wanted to be Beck-ma, which turned into Mock-Mock.
